Egypt Becomes the 45th Signatory to the Raptors MOU

Abu Dhabi, 9 September 2013 - Egypt signed the CMS Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MoU) during the opening of the Saker Falcon Task Force - Stakeholders’ Action Planning Workshop in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.  Dr. Fatma Abou Shouk, Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency signed the CMS Raptors MoU on behalf of Egypt, making it the 45th Signatory.  Egypt is believed to hold the largest breeding population of the threatened Sooty Falcon anywhere the world.  The country is also critically important bottleneck for huge numbers of many species of migratory birds of prey annually.  On behalf of CMS, the Coordinating Unit of the Raptors MoU welcomes Egypt onboard to strengthen international efforts to conserve this spectacular group of migratory birds.
