Saiga Conservation: Setting the Roadmap for the Years to Come

Третье Совещание стран-подписантов Меморандума о взаимопонимании относительно сохранения, восстановления и устойчивого использования антилопы сайги (Saiga Spp.) (Сайга МОВ) проходит с 28 по 29 октября в г. Ташкент, Узбекистан. Техническое Совещание экспертов по сайгаку проходит накануне встречи, 26-27 октября. Во встрече примут участие редставители правительств, подразделений ООН, неправительственных организаций и ученого мира. Целью встречи является разработка плана международного сотрудничества вплоть до 2020 г. по защите вида, находящегося под угрозой исчезновения. Предметом обсуждения станут также состояние поголовья сайги на данный момент и новый формат национальных отчетов для стран-подписантов Меморандума. Техническое совещание экспертов будет посвящено темам охраны здоровья и защиты диких животных от заболеваний, уменьшение эффекта, оказываемого развитием инфраструктуры в регионе на сайгу и ее среду обитания, а также браконьерство и незаконная торговля животными. Также будут представлены последине результаты исследования катастрофического падежа сайги в Казахстане в мае 2015 г., в ходе которого погибло более 134 тысяч животныx.

 

 

Tashkent / Bonn, 26 October 2015The Third Meeting of the Signatories to the Memorandum of Understanding concerning Conservation, Restoration and Sustainable Use of the Saiga Antelope (Saiga MOU) and Technical Workshop for saiga antelope experts is taking place this week from 26 to 29 October 2015 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan with representatives of governments, UN agencies, NGOs and academia in attendance. The Third Meeting of Signatories will set the roadmap for international conservation action for the critically endangered saiga antelope to 2020, as well as presenting the current conservation status and discussing a new National Reporting format for MOU Signatories.

The Third Meeting of Signatories will be preceded by the Technical Workshop for saiga antelope experts (26-27 October), which will see the key topics of wildlife health and disease, the mitigation of impacts of infrastructure development on saiga antelope and its habitat, as well as illegal trade and poaching on the agenda. The latest research regarding the cause of the catastrophic mass mortality of more than 134,000 saiga which occurred in Kazakhstan in May 2015 will be presented. More than 70 participants are expected from the saiga range states and internationally.
