The 11th African Elephant Fund Steering Committee meeting hosted by the Government of Ghana, 18-21 February 2019

Nairobi, 7 March 2019 - The 11th African Elephant Fund Steering Committee (AEFSC) meeting was held in Accra, Ghana from 18 to 21 February 2019 and hosted by the Government of Ghana.

The meeting was presided by the AEFSC Chair, Ghana, and members of the Steering Committee. East Africa was represented by Kenya, West Africa was represented by Ghana and Southern Africa was represented by South Africa. The donors were represented by Belgium and the Embassy of France in Ghana. Ex-officio members were represented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Secretariats. Germany attended the meeting as an observer.

The overall objective of the meeting was to review progress in the implementation of the African Elephant Action Plan, through the review of the operational and administrative mechanisms of the African Elephant Fund hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme.

The 12th African Elephant Fund Steering Committee meeting was proposed to be held in Uganda in 2020.
