Description:

The UNEP/CMS Secretariat and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines, in collaboration with the UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) and the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), is organizing, for the first time, the First Regional Capacity Building Workshop for CMS Non-Parties of South and South-East Asia, taking place from 27-29 October in Quezon City, the Philippines.

Background:

The event will provide an opportunity for CMS Parties from South and South-East Asia to grasp the importance and usefulness of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (UNEP/CMS) for the specific requirements of migratory animals. More to the point, it will provide an avenue for CMS Non-Parties from the region to be well versed with conservation issues related to CBD’s National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and how a CMS membership can significantly enhance the implementation of these mandatory national measures. In addition, the Workshop will be used to further acquaint the participants with the legal aspects of accession to CMS and explore jointly the reasons why accession has not yet taken place and how this can be improved.

At the same time, the regional Workshop will be an excellent opportunity for countries to get familiar with already existing capacity building tools published by the UNEP/CMS Secretariat, such as the CMS Family Manual.

Pre-registration:

To be eligible to participate in this workshop, and to enable the Secretariat to confirm and continue to organize this meeting, the participants are required to register as soon as possible but no later than 15 August 2015 online using the following link .
