Sharks are swimming in troubled waters. In the light of severe declines in many populations of sharks and rays, government officials are considering actions that could help turn the tide for some of the most imperiled of these species.
Thirty-two species, including the Polar Bear, Red-fronted Gazelle, Cuvier’s beaked whale, Hammerhead shark and Reef Manta Ray are being proposed for protection at an international meeting of world governments and experts this week in Quito, Ecuador.

Edinburgh, 20 January 2014 - International experts on birds of prey will convene today in Edinburgh, Scotland, to review conservation priorities within the framework of a UN agreement on migratory raptors in Africa and Eurasia. It is the First Meeting of the Technical Advisory Group to the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MOU) and will be held over four days.
